Colours of Courage Trust
Colours of Courage Trust was founded in 2009 by Mahela Jaywardene and Nathan Sivagananathan as a means of addressing the needs of the National Cancer Institute in Maharagama, Colombo to facilitate access to the growing number of cancer patients and promote cancer research. It was specially formulated to tackle the current, most urgent needs of the hospital and focus on maintaining initiated projects while actively engaging in new ventures.
The Colours of Courage Trust has been established through a guarantee company which ensures its perpetuity and allows for better transparency and accountability.

Trail 2016
COC took to the course yet again in 2016 walking from the Northern most point of Sri Lanka to the Southern most point – from Point Pedro to Dondra Head – over 28 days to raise USD 5 million to construct the Karapitiya Traill Cancer Hospital as an extension to the existing cancer treatment facility at the Karapitiya Teaching Hospital in Galle in the South of Sri Lanka.
‘Trail 2016’ was testimony to the power of people coming together to bring about change – joined by over 2.5 million people from various communities across Sri Lanka we received support through donations and in kind and have raised over LKR 800 million. We continue to fundraise LKR 2.2 billion to build a10-storey treatment center complete with 160-bed adult wards, a paediatric ward, MRI and CT scanning facilities, bone marrow transplant unit, operating theatres, surgical ICU, out-patient facilities and an auditorium.
Upon completion, the Karapitiya Trail Cancer Hospital will provide relief to thousands of patients in the South and its surrounding areas who are anticipating treatment eagerly from months to years on waiting lists.
Trail 2011
‘Trail 2011’, was a trek along the entire 670km length of Sri Lanka, from its Southernmost point, Dondra Head, to the Northernmost, Point Pedro, over 27 days, to raise funds to build a cancer treatment center in Jaffna in the previously war-torn Northern region of Sri Lanka. ‘Trail 2011’ was the first and largest crowdfunding initiative at the time, amassing over 30,000 supporters en-route and raising USD 2.6 million to construct the Tellippalai Trail Cancer Hospital which has treated over 800,000 patients since opening its doors in 2014. The 120-bed state-of-the art treatment facility comprises;

- Chemotherapy unit
- Iodine treatment unit
- Mobile x-ray unit
- LINAC Center
The treatment facility is viewed as an integral element in the healthcare system in the country and has transformed the lives of those who had given up hope for a better life.
